EL CAMINO DEL GUERRERO
Para Antonio Orden, luchador de 25 años del club El Origen Thai Martín, el Muay Thai es "una pasión fuera de lo común". El madrileño, campeón nacional WKA del peso ligero, es uno de los pocos federados españoles en el deporte más icónico de Tailandia. 'Primera Plana' lo acompaña en su combate por el título europeo contra el poseedor del cinturón, el ucraniano Roman Skulsky. Para Antonio 'El Zurdo', con un récord de 25 victorias y dos derrotas, ha aparecido la oportunidad que llevaba esperando toda la vida.
En España, el Muay Thai no da dinero. Así que Antonio Orden se gana la vida como empleado en el servicio de reprografía de la Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. Antes, cuando todavía no ha salido el sol, acude al gimnasio de la universidad. Por las tardes, al salir de trabajar, se integra en la disciplina de su club.
El lugar elegido para la velada que incluye la pelea por el título continental es el polideportivo del Colegio Europeo Aristos de Getafe, adonde Antonio Orden llega alrededor de las siete de la tarde. Cuatro horas antes de la hora prevista para el inicio de su combate.
Intensidad y ceremonia
En un rincón de los pasillos interiores del primer piso, junto a un ascensor, el equipo de Antonio despliega unas sillas e instala su cuartel general. "Cuando subes al ring estás solo, pero hay mucho trabajo colectivo en cada paso", relata Antonio antes de concentrarse en los prolegómenos de la pelea. Al 'Zurdo' lo rodean los compañeros de su club. Lo mismo sucede en cada combate: todos acuden, como una piña. Y junto a ellos está su maestro, Ángel Martín, la figura que da sentido a su aprendizaje en un deporte tan intenso como ceremonioso.
Después de un exhaustivo control médico, las escenas de la previa se suceden. Son un auténtico ritual. Los vendajes, los masajes que acondicionan el cuerpo para la batalla, los consejos, los paseos solitarios para invocar a la concentración... Dentro, sobre el ring, los combates se suceden desde las 18.00 horas. El griterío da pistas sobre el resultado.
El decimotercer combate es femenino, el único de la velada. Ana Garrido, española, cae derrotada a los puntos por la holandesa Naomi Mullet. Antonio Orden peleará en el decimosexto y último. Es la hora de la verdad. Nos pide que nos alejemos un poco para conversar con su maestro antes de ir hacia al ring. Es un instante de comunión.
Minutos después, 'El Zurdo' camina por el terciopelo rojo de una pasarela improvisada. Su estructura se compone de mesas de oficina cuyas patas están unidas con cinta americana. Son objetos corrientes, pero bajo los focos se transforman en el camino del guerrero.
El español saca lo mejor de su repertorio en cinco asaltos terribles. Su depurada técnica de golpeo con los codos y las rodillas, clave en el boxeo tailandés, le otorga ventaja a los puntos.
Pero Skulsky no regala el cinturón. Un cabezazo del ucraniano abre la ceja de Antonio, pero también le cuesta dos puntos de penalización. Pese al reguero de sangre que se desliza por su rostro, el madrileño no se descompone.
Cuando se comunica la decisión y el árbitro alza su brazo, Antonio da un grito liberador. Después de eso, el respeto al derrotado apacigua la sonrisa de satisfacción en su rostro. Más tarde, lo celebra rodeado de los suyos, con el cinturón dorado ceñido a su cintura. El lunes vuelve al servicio de reprografía, con un par de puntos en la ceja y como campeón de Europa de Muay Thai de la WKA.

In a corner of the interior corridors of the first floor, next to an elevator, the equipment of Antonio unfolds some chairs and installs its headquarters. "When you get into the ring you're on your own, but there's a lot of collective work at each step," says Antonio before focusing on the prolegomena of the fight. Lefties are surrounded by his club mates. The same thing happens in every fight: they all come, like a pineapple. And next to them is his teacher, Angel Martin, the figure that gives meaning to his learning in a sport as intense as ceremonious.
After a thorough medical checkup, the scenes of the previous one follow. They are a real ritual. Bandages, massages that condition the body for battle, advice, solitary walks to invoke the concentration ... Inside, over the ring, the fighting takes place from 18.00 hours. Screaming gives clues to the result.
The thirteenth bout is female, the only one of the evening. Ana Garrido, Spanish, falls defeated to the points by the Dutch Naomi Mullet. Antonio Orden will fight in the sixteenth and last. It's the time for the truth. He asks us to walk away a bit to talk to his teacher before going to the ring. It is an instant of communion.
Minutes later, El Zurdo walks on the red velvet of an impromptu walkway. Its structure is composed of office tables whose legs are joined with American tape. They are ordinary objects, but under the spotlights they become the way of the warrior.
The Spaniard brings out the best of his repertoire in five terrible assaults. His refined technique of striking with elbows and knees, key in Thai boxing, gives him advantage to the points.
But Skulsky does not give away the belt. A header from the Ukrainian opens Antonio's eyebrow, but also costs him two penalty points. Despite the blood running down his face, the Madrid man does not break down.
When the decision is communicated and the referee raises his arm, Antonio gives a liberating cry. After that, respect for the defeated appeases the smile of satisfaction on his face. Later, he celebrates it surrounded by his own, with the golden belt girded at his waist. On Monday he returns to the reprographic service, with a couple of points in the eyebrow and as European champion of Muay Thai of the WKA.
